Boink-Town, U.S.A.- Boink County prosecutors are said to be “staggered with disbelief” by the recent plea of a local man accused of cannibalism. According to prosecutors, Willie “Tall’n’Tasty” Dobson’s defense lawyer has entered a plea of “not guilty by reason of insanity or mental defect” with a special caveat claiming that his client’s crimes were the result of a constant bombardment of “low-carb” propaganda and ideals pushed on him by society and, namely, the late Dr. Atkins whose “Diet Revolution” has inspired countless fatasses across the nation to consume almost nothing but meat for the past few years.
According to Jerry Dugans, Esq., Mr. Dobson’s cannibalistic urges surfaced as a direct result of the actions of the “low-carb syndicate” and its outrageous use of certain brainwashing techniques meant to convince the slow-witted and simple-minded that the answer to all of life’s problems lie in the delicious indulgence of an all but exclusive flesh based diet. Proof of this conspiracy, according to the defense, lies in the innumerable low-carb products littering fast food advertisements and grocery store shelves which all appear to hold the promise of a slimmer and therefore more productive and fulfilling life. Dugans says that his client was left with “little or no choice” to devour his thirteen victims after the price of beef and chicken rose sharply in his local supermarket following the Mad Cow and Bird Flu scares of recent years, which pushed the meat-based “life solution” that he had become accustomed to out of the reach of his personal budget. This confluence of circumstances forced Dobson to face an impossible dilemma; either steal the money to buy meat from the grocery store, get a higher paying job, or evolve into a cannibalistic fiend, desperate to maintain the weight loss that he had worked so hard to achieve. With this set of options in front of him, the defense claims that there was only one thing for Dobson to do since his devout Christianity forbade him to steal and his lack of a high school diploma severely limited his chances at finding a higher paying job. The only viable option left for him was to lure transients and orphaned children back to his apartment “for dinner”. Prosecutors make the assertion that the very fact that Dobson chose “highly forgettable and expendable” portions of society on which to feed shows that he was not insane at the time his crimes were committed and that he was not “brainwashed” by the low-carb phenomenon since he was able to reason enough to try and avoid capture. This case is expected to spark an entirely new debate on the cost-benefit scenario of low-carb diets such as Dr. Atkins’ and their effects on the United States justice system, for if Dobson’s defense happens to work, it could set a new and dangerously unappetizing precedent. |
