Take it easy on em', Ed. Edward G. Hochuli, one of the most recognizable referees in the National Football League, has reportedly been suspended for testing positive for one of the league's banned substances. During a routine drug screening in Miami, Hochuli allegedly showed abnormally high levels of testosterone leading to further tests that confirmed the use of an anabolic steroid. Although he's considered one of the more colorful and fair referees in the NFL, the positive drug test confirms the lingering suspicions of football fans everywhere. Hochuli's enormous chest and biceps have led many to suspect the NFL veteran of illegal performance-enhancing substances.
Hochuli's transformation took place after the 97' playoffs when he blew a fumble call during a Vikings-Giants game. When the Vikings came away with a 23-22 victory, many of the New York faithful were convinced that Hochuli's call reversed their fortunes and eventually led to the hiring of Tom "Douchebag" Coughlin. Although based in speculation, many NFL analysts have noted the drastic change in both Hochuli's body mass and demeanor following that ill-fated sunday. Noted for his aggressive style, Hochuli began to dominate the NFL referee landscape with emphatic holding gestures and a deepened voice that would make Barry White weep in defeat. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell calls the findings "unfortunate" and added, " I hope Ed can rebound from this. I know that large muscles can be an addiction and I hope his family and friends can rally behind him. But, this is a league of second chances. Hopefully Ed will get his act together and be ready for the second round of the playoffs. His week long suspension is a reminder to anyone who wants to violate the league's drug policy. We're watching, fellas". |
