Is he or isn't he? Treebune.com - The American culture, in large part, is a vain one, and the shallowness with which many of us conduct our dealings with fellow citizens is unenviable to say the least. Advertisers make it clear that in order to be worth anything in our society, you have to look younger and more vibrant. If you don’t, then you may as well invest in a good dog or go ahead and settle for whichever bar patron will take enough pity on you to allow you to buy them a drink on a Saturday night. This mode of thinking has invaded every facet of our lives. People judge you on the car you drive, the shoes you wear, and according to male hair coloring giant Just for Men, whether or not your “collar matches the cuffs,” so to speak. The same company who made it possible for aging men to not “go graysfully into that good night” has introduced a new product line which has drawn praise from some, and of course, criticism from others. Just for Men: Pubes is, according to the company, “meant to give the discriminating gentleman the opportunity to avoid the embarrassment and humiliation of unveiling un-youthful, graying pubic hairs in intimate situations-- mainly with first-time, unsuspecting partners.”
Proponents of the new Just for Men: Pubes say that the product offering is “long overdue” and that it will “level the playing field” for older men who find themselves in constant competition with younger, non-gray-pubed men for the affections of the women who frequent the kind of bars that men who would use a pube-dying treatment tend to gravitate towards (you know who you are). Critics of the below-the-waist color enhancement claim that the product is unnecessary and will serve as another blow against the scores of men who are unwilling to engage in such cosmetic endeavors and equate the new Just for Men: Pubes to the advent of the toupee which also forced many right-minded men to the dating sidelines. Although the controversy is a heated one, there appear to be no easy answers in sight, and only time will tell which side will emerge victorious in this latest battle of science versus nature, vanity versus common sense. |
